December 23, 2003
"The US Department of Agriculture confirms the first case of mad cow disease in the United States. The infected cow is discovered on a farm in Washington State in early December."
US Beef Importation Ban
"Japan, China and South Korea stop the importation of US beef. Before the ban, South Korea was the third-largest market for U.S. beef, importing $815 million worth of beef and beef products in 2003."
Korea Increases Imports of Australian Beef
"In August 2022, Australian beef exports reached 92,080 tons, up 19% year-on-year (y-o-y) and the highest monthly total since June 2020. Beef exports from Australia rose to its major markets, particularly South Korea (+43% y-o-y), accounting for 20% of Australian beef exports."
Cows in Australia are Free Range
"97% of Australian cattle are raised on pasture, and fed a Grass diet."
"Only 4% of beef produced in the USA is Grass-Fed, and raised on pasture."
Free Range Meat is Too Tough
